Abang Rahmat Yusuf Assumes CEO Role at Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Fund

The Board of Guardians of the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund has officially named Abang Rahmat Yusuf as its new chief executive officer, effective January 29 of this year. Abang Rahmat, a Harvard graduate, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the Head of Investment Banking (Malaysia) at CLSA Securities from 2019 to 2024. In this capacity, he spearheaded various fundraising initiatives, including IPOs and placements, catering to both institutional and corporate clients.

Before assuming his current position, 48-year-old Abang Rahmat held the role of Director (Investments) at Khazanah Nasional for a span of fifteen years, from 2004 to 2019. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Khazanah Turkey regional office based in Istanbul. His responsibilities encompassed overseeing investment activities across Turkey, the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Additionally, he served as the overseeing director for the Financial Institutions Group, which constituted a significant portion of Khazanah’s investment portfolio.

Abang Rahmat's professional journey also includes a significant academic milestone, having earned a Master's in Public Administration from Harvard University. His educational background, combined with his extensive experience in investment banking and asset management, positions him well to lead the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund towards achieving its strategic objectives.

In other developments, the board recently convened its second meeting on March 12, marking another step forward in the governance and oversight of the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund.
